“This is an issue of who you are for: either you are for the mercury producers or you are for the children who could be injured by mercury.”
— Senator Patrick Leahy, April 1, 1998

Why We're Here

We are group of concerned citizens who’ve very closely studied the redevelopment process of the former G-P mill site. Many of us are affiliated with the Bellingham Bay Foundation. Most of us are parents. After studying the documents that spell out the Port’s plans to leave high levels of mercury behind where people will live, work and play, we filed an initiative so that the citizens of Bellingham can have a direct say in getting a safe and healthy cleanup.

We have a dedicated committee working hard to first gather signatures and now pass the citizens’ initiative. We’re passionate about having a safe future for our families and we’re supported by the thousands of citizens who wish to see this question on the ballot.

Join us! Please send us an e-mail, call us, or drop by the office. Help us see that the mercury and other toxins on the waterfront are cleaned up. Cleanup comes first!
